Total and Envision Group, among Tier 1 companies in renewable energy distributed generation in China

Shanghai/Paris: 20 May 2021 – TEESS, a 50/50 joint venture company, established by Total, and Envision Group reached 100 MW in operation, and a total of 150 MW in operation & under construction, of on-site distributed generation solar projects for commercial and industrial (C&I) customers in China. In less than 18 months after the launch of its commercial activity, TEESS fast-track progress has enabled it to rank among country’s tier-one companies providing Solar Distributed Generation. TEESS JV focuses on the customers of the C&I segment that accounts for approximately two thirds of Chinese power consumption. The JV provides these companies 100% renewable power solutions to fulfill their decarbonation goals.
The JV aims to further expand its footprint on providing low-carbon energy solutions to become one of China’s largest service providers of the distributed PV sector. Its current target is to achieve over 500 MW of installed capacity by end 2022. Over 50% of this capacity is already covered by long-term the power purchase agreements (PPAs).
To lead innovation in the DG solar sector in China, TEESS also invests in digitization, to improve customer satisfaction with the monitoring platform as well as in pilot projects on solar and behind-the-meter energy storage solutions that will gradually become critical to the expansion of renewable energy.
“TEESS is proud to have been able to build a solid reputation among the Fortune 500 companies and leading Chinese companies, thanks to our strong operational expertise and high standards of HSE and quality in DG solar sector. We are willing to be a leading trusted Net Zero energy partner for the C&I segment and accompany its sustainable transformation. We will continue to deliver best-in-class decentralized, decarbonated and digitalized energy services to C&I customers and make contribution to China’s carbon neutrality 2060 endeavor,” said Alex Sun, CEO of TEESS.
“We are committed to supporting our JV with Envision in growing its footprint on the booming Chinese C&I market at an accelerated pace as part of our strategy to continuously expand our presence in the country, the world’s largest photovoltaic market. We are committed to enable C&I customers to reduce their carbon footprint supporting China’s net zero ambition,” said Julien Pouget, Senior Vice-President Renewables at Total.
"Our JV with Total in DG solar is a very strategic part of Envision Net Zero Strategy. Being a leading green technology company, Envision wants to help more C&I companies and governments to achieve carbon neutrality via Net Zero solutions including DG solar generation. With our leading AIOT technology, we are committed to helping TEESS become a top-notched player in China DG solar market,” said Michael Ding, Executive Director at Envision.

Total, renewables and electricity
As part of its ambition to get to net zero by 2050, Total is building a portfolio of activities in renewables and electricity that should account for up to 40 % of its sales by 2050. At the end of 2020, Total's gross power generation capacity worldwide was around 12 GW, including 7 GW of renewable energy. Total will continue to expand this business to reach 100 GW of gross production capacity from renewable sources by 2030 with the objective of being among the world's top 5 in renewable energies.
