Road safety: preventing children with an interactive program

TotalEnergies believes that providing better energy to car owners is our professional commitment, but fostering a safer road culture is embedded as our social responsibility. For most years starting in 2001, the annual death toll from traffic accidents in China hovered around 100,000. Even though the death toll has decreased year by year, it is still generally 10 times more than that in the developed nations.

Education and training throughout China to young people

Traffic accidents are a major cause of injury and death among children, so building road safety culture among school children can highly reduce road accidents. Road Safety Training program aims to teach the value of safety to children and assist educators in developing a robust road safety program for schoolchildren. Since the launch in 2010, TotalEnergies’ Road Safety education program has been held for 12 consecutive years. It has involved more than 40 schools in 19 cities across the country, training more than 17,000 students. In 2021, our training camp was held in schools in 7 cities, including Tianjin, Xi’an, Beijing, Zhenjiang, Shanghai, Wuhan and Guangzhou. With the strong support of the Beijing Traffic Safety Publicity and Education Base, students in grades 1-6 participated in the training this year.

The programs include interactive games and lectures about road safety and daily safety, aiming at changing their behavior and increase their awareness through games and tests. Our employees of subsidiaries from 11 cities are highly involved. In addition, we held defensive driving training sessions for our employees through Elf Lubricants Guangzhou.

A preventive and culture-building approach

Further, TotalEnergies China has a comprehensive Road Safety Training kit including a teacher’s book, a student’s book, poster, and certificate, etc. In each of the sessions, a widely spread communication campaign, both online and offline is organized to build the safety culture to a more general public in China society.

Social Communication

In order to make the TotalEnergies Road Safety Training reach a wider audience and enable more members of the public to join it to protect children's road safety, we launched a campaign called #TotalEnergiesTravelSafetyTips on social media platforms from June 7, 2021. It uses social thinking to layout short video platform, original music and gesture dance as the media, through the gesture dance form that combines knowledge and entertainment, spread and promote on social media. With the help of KOL, such as famous bloggers, and all walks of life, the campaign has finally achieved more than 2.5 millions of exposure for the whole year.

In association with professional institutions

In 2021, TotalEnergies and the Road Traffic Safety Research Center of the Ministry of Public Security deepened the cooperation and developed a series of public welfare micro-courses called "Knowing Safety, Enjoying Growth, Traffic Safety Online Classes", allowing children's road safety knowledge to be disseminated online to break through the boundaries of offline classes and reach more families.

"One Helmet and One Belt, Safety always Accompany"

On 122 National Traffic Safety Day, TotalEnergies Road Safety Training actively responded to the call of the Traffic Management Bureau of the Ministry of Public Security to promote the "One Helmet, One Belt" safety guarding action, and jointly launched a social welfare advocacy campaign for car owners in 30 traffic service stations in 7 cities, which was supported and actively participated by the majority of car owners and gained a good social response.
