Since 1995, Hutchinson, Total’s Specialty Chemicals subsidiary has opened a series of production facilities in China, becoming a full-fledged industrial player in the regional market. In 2003, Total opened its first petrochemicals plant in China. This polystyrene plant is located in Foshan, Guangdong province, producing both general-purpose and high-impact polystyrene. The current production capacity of the plant is 200,000 tons per year.

In Nov. 2014, Total inaugurated a new 200 kilotons-per-year (kta) polystyrene plant in Ningbo, Zhejiang province, which will allow Total to actively participate in the development of the high-end polystyrene market in China and reinforce its position among the leading companies in Asia.
